The Tap Room has been restored to reflect its original use as the house’s primary kitchen. Sometimes referred to as the Old Kitchen, the Tap Room can accommodate up to 14 people for meetings and luncheons.
The Tap Room was originally accessed by travelers through the “Stage Coach Door” located on the South Side of the House. A unique feature of this door is that is is divided vertically and not in the traditional horizontal “Dutch door” style. Local lore has it that initially only the latch side of the door would be opened to those calling; the whole door would be opened only once satisfactory introductions were made. Upon entering, ladies were led to the South Parlor on the left; men would turn right into the Tap Room. A “Flip Closet” (named for the popular drink of times) is located between the two rooms, and allowed the tavern-keeper to serve refreshments to both rooms. The Tap Room features a working fireplace with bake oven that is utilized during special events.
